Private & Public Land

View of Dillon and Lake DillonThe United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management manage public lands that account for approximately 79% of the Blue River Watershed. You can think of these areas as being the Forest and Wilderness lands we enjoy surrounding populated areas, as well as most of the skiable acreage at the local ski areas.

110,890 acres (about 21% of Summit County) are privately owned and concentrated along the major stream corridors. The major population centers in the Blue River Watershed are the towns and unincorporated areas of Blue River, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Frisco, Keystone, Dillon and Silverthorne. Much of the land in these areas is considered private land.
